This lunch creation is a little bit different. It doesn't contain your typical cream cheese, peanut butter, ham/cheese sandwich filling. So what's in it you wonder? Dun, dun, dun....liver sausage.
Now, if you've never had it before, just the name is enough to make some people cringe. I actually tell my kids it's called "special butter" because if I called it by name, they probably wouldn't eat it either.
Growing up with a Slovenian background, this was a staple of my childhood and I still love it today. It's great on bread, crackers, and croissants. And what's even better, it's pink! (Perfect for Valentine's)!
So let's get right to it and start with the sandwich. If I'm being honest, this didn't quite turn out as expected. I bought rye bread because I thought the shape would be perfect if I cut it diagonally and then flipped one side to make it into a heart shape. I was very mistaken. So, what I ended up doing was making 2 sandwiches and using the same half from each to make the hearts. One for the kids, one for you!? (Maybe it wasn't a mistake after all).
