Home Alone

What are you going to do when all of the kids are in school?

That is the question that I've been getting a lot lately (and have even been asking myself).

My youngest starts school today and I've cried a lot lately because of it. My baby is leaving me. My last one. My sidekick.

I've been home with a child everyday for the past 9 and a half years. Sure, the little guy went to preschool last year but that was only 2 days a week for 2 and a half hours a day. Now I'm going to be alone everyday for 6 hours a day! (Well, my husband will be around because he works from home but it's not the same as a cute little kid).

So what am I going to do with myself?

I'm going to start taking better care of myself and the house. I am going to start every morning after drop off with a workout. Then I'm going to tackle the seemingly endless list of things that need to be fixed and cleaned around here. Things that I just couldn't get done with a busy 3-year old home.

Since the weather will hopefully still be decent, my plan for September is to get the outside of our house looking nice. I'm going to sand and repaint our peeling garage doors. I'm going to weed the gardens and actually plant some trees and flowers to add some curb appeal.

Once the winter weather is upon us, I'll take myself inside. I need to finish painting my oldest daughters bedroom doors (from her new bedroom that we made her in March). The hallway needs to be repainted where the boys threw a ball and made a hole. Both of my boys need their rooms refreshed. The master bedroom is also on the list to be repainted. Painting should keep me busy for quite a while (especially because I hate it so it takes me that much longer).

I also have to do a massive declutter. I started a Declutter Challenge earlier in the year but I got so busy that I made it to day 6 and then quit. I need to get a lot of this junk out of our house so I don't feel so overwhelmed by everything all the time.

The truth is, as much as I'm going to miss having little people around constantly, I feel like I'm going to be so busy and productive that I'll eventually be wishing I had more time in the day to do all of the things that need to get done.

Who am I kidding, I will be so happy when I get to see all of these faces again at the end of the day!
