Last week I was fortunate enough to get some eyelash extensions! I've never really considered getting them done before, as a mom of 4, it wasn't really in my "beauty budget".
However, when Helena from New Tec Lashes reached out and offered to do eyelash extensions for me, I was quite surprised and very excited. I was also a little nervous to try it out. I have very sensitive skin and a few years ago, I had such bad eczema that my eyes swelled shut for weeks! I shared my concerns with Helena and she assured me that if I had any issues at all, to come back to see her immediately and she would remove them. I'm a bit of a risk taker so I decided to go for it and am I ever glad I did.
When I arrived at Helena's place, she was so warm and welcoming. As soon as I stepped through the door, I knew I was in good hands.
I went down into her basement studio and it was such an inviting and relaxing environment. I am a huge music lover and the playlist she had going couldn't have been better. We sat and chatted for a bit about the process while I filled out the standard waiver. She took some before pictures and then she got started.
Once you lay down, she washes your lashes and tapes the bottom ones down and out of the way. It felt really awkward at first but you get used to it quicky. Then she starts the extensions. It's a 1 to 1 process, so for every eveylash you have, she adds an extension to it. She was so gentle I could barely feel it.
Now, here's a little "pro tip" for you. Do not drink two coffees right before you go. The appointment is typically 3 hours long and you have to lay completely still with your eyes closed the whole time.
I was told that some people actually fall asleep during the process and I fully believe that if I wasn't over caffeinated, I probably would have. The bed she has you lay on is actually heated and she has cozy blankets and pillows for maximum comfort.
My anxiety (or maybe it was the coffee) started kicking in about 2 hours into it and the go-go-go mom mentality started up. I don't think I've sat still for more than an hour since having kids, nevermind relaxing for 3 straight hours. That was the only real struggle for me. I focused on the music though and made it through the last hour.
Once she was done and I saw the results I was blown away! I didn't have any eye make-up on but I felt so glamorous with my new lashes. I actually haven't worn any eye make-up since and it's been amazing. I'm saving time in the mornings and to be honest, these lashes look way better than any make-up I could ever do.
If you are in the Barrie/Alliston/Innisfil, ON area, I absolutely recommend giving Helena at New Tec Lashes a try.
A classic set of lashes is $100 and a fill is $50. But, if you book before Valentine's Day, she is offering a 20% discount!
